Obituary of Louis Lyle

Decorated WWII Veteran Received Legion of Honor from French Government for efforts in Juno Beach Invasion leading to the Liberation of France Member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 178 Volunteer Firefighter Lou was one of eleven children of George and Margaret Lyle. Born October 8, 1919 – December 24, 2016. Peacefully passed away at Bowmanville Hospital at 97 years. Predeceased by his wife Joyce in 2004. Loving father of Janice and Donna. Grandfather of Rich (Sherrie) Snowden, Scott (Nikki) Snowden and Shelley (Nelson) Jeronimo. Great-grandfather of Brayden, Connor, Brycen, Jordan, Alana and Gracie. He is survived by sister Ede Bently. Also leaves behind his precious cat Blackie. Predeceased by 4 brothers, Tom, Al, John and Bill & 5 sisters, Mary, Barb, Marion, Dot and Lucy. Lou was very proud of his family history with the Bowmanville Fire Department. Dating back over 100 years with his grandfather, father and himself and his brothers to present day having a grandson on the Bowmanville Fire Department. After returning from overseas where he spent 6 years during the war, Lou spent his working years in Goodyear, often travelling splicing conveyer belts, also spending time on the fire department. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing, auction sales and collecting stuff, and spent hours tinkering in his workshop either building or taking stuff apart, he was a devoted Blue Jays fan. Lou always enjoyed helping his family with their building projects and was an avid lover of animals. Lou will be missed my many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends at Bowmanville Legion Branch 178 and Bowmanville Fire Department, and by longtime friend Elwood. Lou was a very proud and independent man and lived alone in his home until September of this year. He was a man who was loved and was proud of all his family. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all his family.
