Obituary of Doris Eileen Stoddard

(nee Thompson & Carter) 1923-2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother on Friday June 11, 2010 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville. Doris, much loved wife of William (Bill) Mitchell Stoddard (RCAF WWII Overseas Veteran), and the late Kenneth Roland Carter (RCAF WWII Overseas Veteran d. 1952). Adored mother of Gary Carter (Karen), Bill Stoddard Jr. (Eren), and Brent Stoddard (Karlan). Dearest grandma of Tyler (Stephanie), Carly (Brad), Haley (Jason), Jamie (Samantha), Sabrina, Abril, Danny and Sofia. Predeceased by her parents, Walter Adrian Thompson and Olive Beatrice Cole, her brother Jack Ira Thompson (Joan), and her sister, Jean Olive Harnden (Rick). Much loved sister-in-law of the late Helen Campbell (the late Bob), Evelyn Palmer (the late Lloyd), Mona Lofthouse (the late Ross) and John (Jack) Stoddard (Pauline). Doris also treasured her close relationship with her Carter family, many nieces, nephews and friends. Doris was born in Toronto on April 11, 1923. She married Ken Carter in 1942 and he passed away tragically in 1952. In 1954, she married Bill and they raised their family in Don Mills, Ontario but also loved their time at the cottages on Lake Muskoka for over 50 years. She always looked forward to both the Stoddard and Thompson picnics as they kept family close. A Special Thank you to the doctors & staff at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville for their exceptional care & compassion during DorisÂ’ illness. Friends and relatives may be received at THE NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. Bowmanville, for a Celebration of Life on Saturday June 19, 2010 at 3 pm.
