Obituary of Joan Deyell

M. JOAN DEYELL It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Deyell share of her death on Thursday January 14, 2016 After a long and continuing journey with Alzheimer’s, surrounded by her family, Joan passed away peacefully at Fosterbrooke Long Term Care Residence. Fosterbrooke had become her home, in its truest sense, and her family grew to include all those who lovingly cared for her over the past six years. Joan was predeceased by her loving husband Bill (2013). She is survived by her three children David of Burlington, Laura (Bob) McClelland of Bowmanville and Matt (Nicki) of Oakville. Grandma Joan will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Amy, Eliza, Olivia, Natalie and Christopher who all walked this journey with Grandma. They knew how very special their Grandma was, even through her illness, and learned so much from just being with Grandma. Being a Mom and Grandma were Joan’s greatest joys. Joan grew up in Peterborough, the only child of the late Amos and Olive Hastie. Joan lived in many communities across Ontario including Lindsay, Uxbridge, Chatham, Hanover, London, Oakville and Newcastle. Joan has been a lifetime member of the United Church of Canada and was actively involved wherever she lived. She was a committed UCW member until her illness. Joan was a generous spirit and lent her good hand and good nature and leadership abilities to so many charitable organizations through the years. Joan was a wonderful listener, making her a good friend to young and old. People liked to be with Joan. Joan would be described as a gentle spirit. Her love and compassion touched so many. Those who hadn’t had a chance to know Joan when she was well could still sense her grace and beauty. She lived and died with faith. She was quite a love story. How we will miss her.
