Obituary of Alan Gerry Glaspell

Alan Gerry Glaspell

Surrounded by his loving family, Alan passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2024 at age 80.

Much loved husband of Debbie.  Proud dad of Patricia Glaspell-Booth (Richard Booth); the late Anne Marie Glaspell and Lori (Randy) Smith; Blair Niblett (Clayton Trought) and James (Alicia) Niblett.  Cherished grandpa of Kayla (Lucas), Tristan (Emily), Reanda (Stephan), Haley (Dan), Adriana and Audrey and great grandpa of Skylar, Holden, Silas and Raegan.  Loving brother of Marilyn (Bill) Burns and brother-in-law of Greg (Marj) Wall, Wendy (Ken) Greenwood and Rick (Rose) Wall.  Al will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and countless friends.  He was predeceased by his parents Gerry & Jean Glaspell and mother-in-law June Wall.

After playing Junior B hockey in Bowmanville and Junior A in Oshawa, Al became keenly interested in Officiating.  While attending Referee School he was recommended to the NHL Referee-in-Chief Scotty Morrison.  Al signed with the NHL in 1969 as a Linesman.  He also worked with the AHL & WHA in the ‘70s, eventually working the 1979 International Allstars Series between Moscow Dynamo and the WHA Allstars in Edmonton.

Through the many adventures in his life, Al’s number one priority and greatest joy was his family.  His children, and especially his grand and great grandchildren were the lights of his life.  His smile, humour and love will always be remembered.  He touched many lives, and all are richer because of it.
