Just learned of Kevin's passing - Our condolences to The Baker Family. Arlene and I knew Kevin during his CNAQ days. He was such a breath of Fresh Air to that Stale Situation at CNA & CNAQ. When in Doha he joined our Saturday slow-pitch gang and added his warmth and cheer. We put together a Team to play at the
American School tournament, they beat us badly, but we had fun and a few years later when a Group of young real good Hal players came along and we won Keven sent over a sizeable donation to buy a round of refreshments.
As part of the Mngmt group at CNAQ I had the opportunity to work with Kevin, he was honest, very intelligent and passed off compliments to others - when it was really him we need to Thank.
I was in a time bind selling my house and needed to have the legal work done quickly, Kevin grabbed the papers and returned the lot of it ready for submission. We tried to give him a Painting of a Newfoundland landscape, True to form he wouldn't accept - quoting the college policy. The painting hangs in the CNA office in Stephenville. We will now ensure an appropriate plaque labels it with Kevin name.
Thanks again for sharing Kevin with us.
Kind Regards
Jim Bathgate and Arlene McCann

Kellie,
Kevin's unexpected passing has hit us hard. We knew about the planned trip to Australia for a long time because Stephanie was originally going to go with you. You and she would have had a girl's trip while Kevin went on his big motorcycle adventure... doing what he loved. She regrets not being there with you and Kevin. She regrets not seeing him again and not being there for you in your moment of need.
In Stephenville, our families were very close. We were neighbours living on the "classier" side of Queen Street extension. We hung out with Kevin and you at Clancy's pub with the rest of the college crowd. We celebrated hallowe'en and so many other special times with your kids. We attended each other's weddings. We went camping together. We helped each other move houses several times over. This and so much more.
Kevin was very dedicated to his work. Sometimes he spent too much time behind the laptop back then or was away travelling for work. But he always came back home to his family. And he knew how to have fun too. One of my best memories is when our families went to Sandbanks provincial park together in Burgeo. I got to see another side of him there. It was such a joyful time.
Kevin has taken you and your children so very far with his love. We will all miss him. Until our ride takes us back to him...

In 2015 I went on the greatest road trip of my life thanks to this guy right here.
I first met Kevin when he spoke in one of my college classes in 2015. He proposed an idea of riding his motorcycle from Deadhorse, Alaska to Key West, Florida to raise awareness for inclusion and to raise scholarship funds for those with intellectual disabilities to help them gain post secondary education. All he needed was someone to film it. I immediately knew I wanted in on this adventure when I found out why he was doing it.
It's been 7 years since this unforgettable road trip. I often find myself reminiscing over moments from this trip. People we met along the way. The views we saw. Life lessons. I had the honour of standing beside Kevin as he traded in his fear of heights for his determination to view the massive and beautiful waterfall. I got to witness first hand, as he inspired people all across North America during The Ride For Inclusion.
Kevin, you were full of kindness, laughter, bear hugs, and so much care for others. You always had a smile on your face and wanted the best for everyone. Every motorcycle ride you've done hasn't been just for fun. You've always managed to find a way to give back at the same time. It's been incredible to watch you take on new routes around the world and continue to give back in a way you love and enjoy!
You were 2/3's of your way around Australia when your journey came to a fatal halt. Part of me is still struggling with the news of what happened.
I hope you knew how many lives you've touched. You left a legacy behind. It's been an absolute honour to have known you. Thanks for always trying to make the world a better place than you found it! The world is a better place because you were in it. It was a blessing to work along side a world changer like yourself and to survive the Alaska Highway with you.
Gone too soon. You will be missed, Kevin!
RIP, my friend.
To the Baker family, my most heartfelt condolences as you all grieve this loss.

To Kevin’s family,
We send you our deepest condolences for the loss of Kevin. He was a special man which people could see the first time meeting him. He was thoughtful, and always had a twist of humor to add a special flavor to serious work discussions. We were so fortunate to be able to see him only a few weeks ago when he joined us for a meeting here in Ottawa; and during our social time, he shared some wonderful family stories. He was a wonderful person. We are saddened by your heartbreak. Caroline and all his friends at FITT.

To Mrs. Baker and family, I want to first start by saying how very sorry I am for such a tremendous loss you all have experienced. Mr. Baker (Kevin) was my dean in my first college program, and the very first time I met him was the last day of school. The reason we met was because of a teacher but that's not the important part, the important part was that in conversation with Kevin he knew that I had 2 children with Autism and anything after that part he didn't want to hear because he knew. He knew what I was going through as a single mom in college with 2 small children, he just said I'll see you at convocation. He sure did! And he give me the biggest hug at the end of the stage, and then again in 2017 in at my second convocation. Kevin is/was/and will continue to be a very important person in my life, to some I may have been just a student but not to Kevin, he didn't make me feel that way at all. I'm just glad I got the opportunity to tell him that he treated me like family and I will appreciate him forever. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful human being with us

We met Kevin on the ball field. Kevin always had a smile on his face no matter how good or bad we did. The second picture is our team in the parking lot after the game the year we had made it all the way yo the championship game which Kevin informed me was going to be his final game and he was hanging up his cleats. As soon as I mentioned to friends on the other team what he had announced they (knowing the guy Kev was) immediately wanted to join us and celebrate with him. Kevin was also a huge encouragement to us both going back to school and continuing our education. He was so proud of us the night we graduated and we were both extremely honored to share the stage with him that night. We will never forget you Kev ❤️

I met Kevin through our love for motorcycling. I had recently completed my 48 State ride of the US and was finding out about the Iron Butt rides. Through mutual friends we friended one another on Facebook. He sent me a message telling me he liked my stories and told me he had a son named Kameron as well and shared a YouTube video. A friendship was born. We would finally meet face to face in Sept 2023. He was larger than life but that smile was all I needed to see. He greeted me with a huge bear hug and that big grin. I'll cherish that moment in time forever and will always remember my friend Kevin "Bam" Baker.

I shared similar routes to Kevin on this years Iron Butt Rally. We met at about 5 or 6 bonus locations. He would not pass me without talking for a while, he was always humble and told me he would seek advice from more experienced IBR riders that he knew to help him out. I was stopped at one bonus at a museum / collection where the statue we were supposed to photograph had been removed. The 2 women curators came out to explain that it was missing and showed us the plinth it used to be on, which would have been sufficient for the photo. Kevin and 1 other rider had arrived, it was clear that the women were excited by the rally and were keen to talk, I left with the other rider after taking our photos but Kevin sensed the women's disappointment and as I was leaving I saw him remove his helmet for a chat with the women. I sensed he was the kind of man never to leave anyone out. RIP.

To Kellie and the Baker family,
I had the pleasure of meeting Bam at the IBR this year in Pittsburgh (and again in Tweed in August).
I cannot say I knew him well but we shared a passion and some laughs each time we met.
Having recently lost a loved one myself, I can tell you that the fond memories help to dull the pain just a little.

Bam you were one of nature’s true gentleman. I will forever value the fact I was the last person to ride with you for those 12 hours from Esperance to Muchea in Western Australia. Mate I will miss seeing you in my rear-view mirror, and will forever remember what are now cherished memories, particularly as we waved to each other and parted company on the road that last night together.
Two Hoka Hey Vets rolling some miles together down under ... it was simply priceless.

My deepest condolences to Kellie and all of the Bakers.
Bakes was a kind, thoughtful, intelligent, and playful giant of a man who often gave more than he got from us, but getting never seemed to be part of his wants or needs. He unwittingly touched, and contributed to, so many of our lives by simply being Bakes. We are all better for having known him, for laughing and learning, for chilling and conversing with Kev. As serious he could be, his impish grin and knowing chuckle from afar was a comfort to us all.
Thanks for being Baker.

Dear Baker Family
So very sorry for your tragic loss - words cannot express the sadness you all are feeling!
I had the pleasure of working with Kevin on a few projects- at Durham and he was always encouraging, funny and coming up with new ideas all the time!
One day he thought we needed a little inspiration and decided that on the late Bob Marley’s birthday we should wear t-shirts! The night before his Birthday, I found a Bob Marley T-shirt and bought it for Kevin! Here is a picture of him proudly wearing it! After Bob Marley’s Birthday the shirt was hung up in his office and wore it every year - he said it was one of his favourite gifts - oh what laughs we had. He certainly was a force and he will not soon be forgotten!
