August 21, 1948 – September 4, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Ron on Monday September 4, 2023 at the age of 75

Beloved husband of the late Eleanor Ann (Walls) Pickell.  Devoted father to Anne (John) and Heather (Todd).  Lovingly remembered by his dear sisters Elizabeth Marsh (Ron), Eydie Bradshaw, and by his in-laws Aileen (Bill) Hockett, Bill (Judy) Walls, Donald Terry and Terry Anderson.  Loving son of the late Earl and Christina Pickell.  Preceded in death by his brother Walter Pickell, and by his sisters Lorna Terry, Mary Anderson and Wilma Dockrill.  Ron is fondly remembered by his step grandchildren Ethan, Sawyer and Olivia; along with numerous nieces and nephews and caring friends.  Ron and Eleanor’s cherished animals Bobbie, Tommy and Kaleigh miss them greatly and are now in the loving care of Anne and her family.

Ron was born in Belleville, Ontario in 1948.  He was the second oldest of 7 children and remained in the Belleville area for most of his childhood.  In 1974 he met and married the love of his life, Eleanor, after meeting her at a dance in Oshawa.  Soon after moving to Bowmanville, Ontario Ron began his career in Corrections and with the Provincial Government of Ontario.  Over the course of his employment he held management positions at correctional facilities in Whitby, Cobourg, Millbrook and Peterborough.

As per Ron’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Sunday September 24^th, 2023 from 1 – 4 pm at Northview Gardens outdoor venue in Selwyn, Ontario.  Ron was very passionate about doing everything he could to help those in need, and he often led by example.  With this same regard, the following two charities are the ones that he most often supported.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army Food Program in Peterborough (please call 705-743-3131 to donate) https://donate.salvationarmy.ca/page/62241/donate/1?locale=en-CA or the Peterborough Humane Society (705-745-4722) would be greatly appreciated.
