Obituary of Helen Ruth Herron

Helen Ruth Herron

(nee Cole)

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Helen Ruth Herron at the age of 85.

She was called to glory on January 7, 2023 into the arms of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Helen was surrounded by her family and those who deeply loved her when she took her last breath in Florida, vacationing with family.

Survived by her loving husband Grant Herron; loving and devoted mother to Peter and his wife Debra, Lynda and her husband Greg, Paul and his wife Vicki; the BEST grandma to Amy, Jacob, Karissa and her husband Noll, Emily and her husband Nicolas, Joshua, Noah, Sydney, Caleb and Matthew.

Helen was born on August 31, 1937 at Bowmanville Hospital to the late Douglas and Bernice Cole.  Helen grew up in Bethesda/Tyrone, Ontario with her 3 siblings, Lillian, the late Allin and younger sister Jean.  Helen met Grant, the love of her life, in the summer of 1955, they were later married December 20, 1958 and were blessed with 64 precious years together.  After completing teacher’s college Helen was employed with the Oshawa Board of Education.  After 5 years Helen left the school board to become a full-time homemaker and mother.  Helen taught Sunday School for many years, directed Vacation Bible School and was the hostess for many visiting pastors and their families.  Helen was a prayer warrior and would often call those who were lonely and spend time talking and praying with them.  She encouraged everyone who crossed her path.  She enjoyed baking and making lunches for her grandchildren, and she made the best strawberry pie, banana muffins, bread and Christmas squares.  Helen enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in sports and Grant and Helen would often attempt to be present at more than one game each evening.  Helen was extremely proud of her family, sharing many years of wonderful memories.  She often shared her deep faith for the Lord and had the best smile and laugh.  Helen left a wonderful mark on all who knew her; she was a precious gift from God and will be dearly missed.

“Faith isn’t what you know, it’s what you do with what you know.”  One of the many notes found in Helen’s bible.

Visitation will be held at NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. N. Bowmanville on Thursday January 26th from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 pm.  A Celebration of Helen’s life will be held at NEWCASTLE FELLOWSHIP BAPTIST CHURCH, 200 King Avenue East on Friday January 27th at 11 am, visiting between 10 – 11 am.  Interment Ebenezer Cemetery.  Memorial Donations may be made to ShareWord Global or Compassion Canada.
