Obituary of Walter George Woodward

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Walter (Jit) Woodward on Thursday October 11, 2012. He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Gwendolyn Jean (nee Cain), his children Leah Wood (Robert) of Newcastle and Tom (Roberta) of Winnipeg. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Courtney, Derrick, Jesse (Kristen), Abby & Ally. Walter was predeceased by his brothers Jim & Harold and sisters Grace, Jean & Evelyn. He leaves many nieces & nephews as well as sisters-in-law Betty & Audrey. Walter will be greatly missed but not forgotten by those who loved him. Born to William James Woodward & Isobel McCullogh on September 26, 1929, Walter was a Bowmanville boy all his life. As an adventurous young man he enjoyed hitchhiking a ride on boxcars ~ sometimes across Canada. He had a way of figuring out the angles and strategies needed for success in many of his activities. He was an avid hockey player, lawn bowler, 5 pin bowler, billiards player and card player. He had a long career with General Motors of Canada retiring in 1984. He was a keen bicyclist and walking enthusiast long before the rest of us. Jit was also one of the ultimate bargain hunters. The Woodward Family would like to thank Dr. Sridhar and all of the staff at Critical Care for their warm and thoughtful care of Walter.
