John an impact is so many people life. Asked about his family with love. He taught me that being present to.the people are counselling is a great way yo build a therapeutic mileau.
Thanks for always being honest. Each human we meet have a gift to see, and look for every positive characteristics that can help us out journey.
And our journey can change...and its all ok. Thanks for your many gifts. I alway wish I was musical. Playing a song could change the atmospher.
Proud to be a fellow CYC/CYW. You allowed me to complete my third year of field practicum.

I worked with John when he was a CYC and I was a Special Education teacher. I remember when we were working with a student who was experiencing many challenges in his young life. John was so kind, patient and supportive both to the student, the family and to the school staff. He helped us to remain calm and positive during stressful times. My condolences to John’s family.

John was a very dear friend of mine for many years going back to our days at John XX111 where he was a youth counsellor and I taught grade eight. He always loved playing the guitar at school masses and was well liked by staff and students alike. He would eventually form his own "downomer' band and played at different venues ranging from Toronto to Bowmanville.
John loved to go camping with his kids and his nephew and our favourite spot was up on Lake Simcoe at Mara Provincial Park and the nightly highlight was John taking out his guitar with all of us singing the night away---the rum certainly did add to the enjoyment!
John also loved to play tennis and we had regular sessions on Saturdays at the Civic as well as other courts around the Whitby area. He also played basketball for many years in different courts around the region as well as summer baseball.
John was a dedicated family man who adored his beautiful wife, Joan and always spoke so fondly of her---Joan looked after John for many years during his illness both at home in Wilmot Creek and during his many months in the hospital---she was kind, loving and so very dedicated to the love of her life. We share in your grief Joan as you continue along your path and you are always in our prayers.
We will never forget you John even though you are no longer with us physically you are always in our hearts and in our memories. He has gone to God and is now in His loving embrace---he is at peace and no longer in pain. Rest in Peace my dear friend.

Dear Joan, This is Lana. My deepest sympathy and condolences. My heart truly cries with yours as you grieve the loss of your dear husband. John and I worked together in Student Services. I too am a CYC. You may remember me.
My memory of John while we worked together is his kindness, his genuine care for others, his huge laugh and always having time for you. When I spent time with John I always felt that he had all the time to listen to share his thoughts and to be present with me while we spoke. I remember him sharing words of concern and wisdom when we spoke at Notre Dame while he was caring for the school....our conversations always included him saying "be sure to take care of yourself" and then he would say it again with with a deeper concern and care..."be sure to take care of yourself" .
I pray for your peace now Joan as you live with the grief. Thank you so much for allowing us to share in your grief journey by sharing our memories and hold you up to our Heavenly Father to take care of you.

Hi Joan it's Betty Tompkins (Vankoughnett). My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. John and I were two of the three original Child and Youth Counsellors at the DCDSB at the time and he took me under his wing and showed me the ropes. We had a great relationship at work back in the day. We were all one big family in the Student Services Department. I remember his love of music and being present many times when he had the guitar out playing. I was introduced to Gary Cummings through you guys and had some nice get togethers outside of work listening to them play. I thought of John and you often but lost touch when he became custodial staff and you moved from Whitby. I will keep the memories close to my heart and am going to join the Zoom on Thursday night.

Hi Joan,
So sorry to hear of John's passing. John and I worked together in Student Services in the 1990s. You may recall that our families were staying at the same hotel in Myrtle Beach in the spring of 1997, so we hung out a little bit down there - beers and guitar by the pool and we all went out for an evening together. I'll always remember John for his guitar-playing and his kind heart. Again, I am so sorry for your family's loss.

Hi Joan,
I just found out that John has passed away and I am so sorry for you loss. I was trying to get in touch with him when I found out online about his death. I had wanted to to talk to John about John Prine who just passed away last week. We were both big fans of John Prine and I will always remember your John singing his songs. I remember out time together at the school board and visiting your home when you moved to the lake. Again my sincere condolences I will always remember him and his love of music.
