Obituary of Cornelia Verheggen-Wintels

Cornelia (Corry) Verheggen passed away gracefully in her 91st year at the Providence Healthcare Facility on Monday, July 6th. Corry will be missed by her family in Canada as well as her sisters and brother (Door Van Aken, Leen Driessen, Ber Van Elferen and Paul Wintels) in The Netherlands. Corry is predeceased by her parents, Antonius and Theodora Wintels, as well as two sisters and three brothers. Corry married Jacobus (Jack) Theodorus Hendrikus Verheggen and immigrated to Canada in 1954. Together they settled in the Toronto area and raised their six children. Proud mother of Henny (Carole), Dorothy (Gord), Tony (former spouse Karen), Faye (Greg), Riet (Mark) and Paul (Monica). Cherished grandmother of Chris, Virginia, Lisa, Michael, Breanne, Dustin, Elise, Jessica, James, Jacob, Alix, Melanie, Lauren, Therese, Nicole, Tyler, Meagan, Erin and Michelle. Adored great grandmother of Zoe, Logan, Brody, Myles, Bayley, Noah, Breanne, Carley, Brooklyn, Quartez, Waverly, Ava, and Mason. Corry was creative and adventurous. She returned to highschool as her youngest son was graduating, got her driver’s license at the age of 50 and, in her golden years, became an avid painter and painting teacher. She was proud of successfully obtaining her Canadian Citizenship in 1993. It was around that time that she met Frank Boyle who became her companion and dear friend until his death last April.

Service

Visitation will be held at NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. Bowmanville on Friday July 10, 2015 from 10 am – 11 am. A Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel at 11 am. Cremation will take place followed by interment at Highland Memory Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation.
