Obituary of Doreen Hickey

Doreen (Evelyn) Hickey, nee Mulcahey, just into her 88th year, peacefully passed away Thursday, Dec 21 at AgeCare Samac LTC, Oshawa (formerly Chartwell Wynfield)

Doreen was born in Sudbury on Dec 19, 1936 to Evelyn Mae (Boucher) and William Edward Mulcahey, both predeceased.  She was the fifth of eight children, and is predeceased by her brothers: Rev. Harris, Robert (Rita), Lloyd and Lawrence as well as her sister, Sister Celia Mulcahey.

She is survived by her ever loving husband, Michael Hickey of 66 years, children Roxanne (Terry) McDonald, Rodney (Lori), Ryan (Lisa).  Grandchildren Kira (Jeff), Kinsie (Mark), Rachel, Logan, Melissa and Dustin as well as great grandchildren Wesley, Addison and Laiken.  She is also survived by siblings Patrick (Dara), Teresa, sisters-in-law Diana and Rosita and Marnie, mother to Rachel and Melissa and grandmother to Wesley.

Doreen lived in Sudbury until 1979 when she and Mike moved to Peterborough where they lived until 1994. They then moved to Oshawa to be closer to children and grandchildren.

While she wasn’t an animal lover, her 4 dogs, Fleegle, Benji, Taxi (Chew) and Riley gave her great companionship.  She was rarely seen without the colour pink on! Some of you will know Doreen as Doris and suffice it to say if you do, you know why.  She was a feisty and spirited woman with intense convictions; if you understood her, you were able to enjoy a deep relationship with her.

At Doreen’s request there will be no formal funeral.  Cremation will take place in Bowmanville and she will be laid to rest with her parents at Lasalle Cemetery in Sudbury sometime in the late spring / early summer.

Thank you to the staff at AgeCare Samac LTC (formerly Chartwell Wynfield) You were a significant part of her family these past several years; we sincerely appreciate the kindness and compassion you showed us all these past couple of weeks.

Donations to Lupus Canada, Parkinsons Canada or Alzheimers Society of Canada would be appreciated as all have impacted her life.
