Obituary of Jean Taylor

Evelyn Jean Taylor (nee Montgomery)

April 22, 1932 – October 1, 2023

Passed away peacefully at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at the age of 91 years.

She was predeceased by her parents, Bruce and Elva Montgomery, and her husband, Robert Bruce Taylor.  Jean was a loving mother to children Walter (Linda), Lawrence (Denise Davis), Neil (Janice), Annette, Colette (Baillie Carleton), Pauline Dueck (Weldon), Francine Taylor-Gobeil (Bernard), Kevin Taylor (Beth Parks). She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Sean (Ginger), Andrea Remmert (Trevor) and Lindsay Webster (Malcolm); Nathan (Elizabeth), Jeremy (Fiona Hossack) and Bryn Gunning (Brad); Logan Orser (Taylor), Keenan Lukasewich (Trent), Connor (Madison) and Hunter; Stephen (Rebecca), Colin (Lauren) and Joel (Liz Dueck Perez), Duecks; Sophie and Jérôme, Gobeils; and Sam and Sadie, Taylor-Parks. Jean was great-grandmother to Ariel, Kaitlin, Bennett and Taylor; Violet, April, Cooper and Tilly Dee; Barrett, Lauren and Enna; and Isaac, Everly, Sophia and Simon.  Jean will also be held dear in the hearts of her friends, nieces and nephews.

As an only child, Jean grew up on a farm on the 7th Concession of Darlington Township, now the Town of Clarington.   She married and raised her own family just down the road on Hollowview Farm. As well as caring for a family of eight, she had egg routes in both Bowmanville and Oshawa. When her children were in school, she took on both a local mail route (for 15 years) and a school bus route (for 25 years).  She was recognized in 1993, as the School Bus Driver of the Year by the Ontario Public School Teachers’ Federation.

With her family all away from home, Jean didn’t stop to take a breath. She became more involved in volunteer work earning lifetime membership awards from both the Federated Women’s Institute of Ontario and the United Church Women of Canada.  In addition, Jean was recognized with Volunteer Awards by the Province of Ontario, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Clarington Older Adults Association and the Solina Community.

Jean loved to host gatherings for family and friends with lots to eat and lots of laughter.  She was always polite, kind and willing to listen; she will be missed.

The family will receive friends at the Eldad Church, Solina, on Saturday, October 14th, from 1 to 2:30 pm. A Service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held in the Church at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. David Sherwin officiating.  Cremation has taken place.  Interment of Jean’s ashes will follow immediately after the service.

In memory of Jean, donations to the Eldad United Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
