Obituary of Shirley Millingen

(nee Murphy) At approximately 3:30 p.m., on Thursday March 10, 2011,Shirley, succumbed to her battle with cancer and passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. She was surrounded by her husband Ron, her children, and other close friends and family members. A former newspaper columnist and one of the first female voices to work at radio station VOCM, Shirley, is known to many these past years for the completion of her memoirs, Allan Square. This milestone publication, written in her seventies tells the bitter sweet story of life growing up poor in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Beloved wife of Ronald for 28 years. Dear mother of Tim Breen (Paula), Mark Breen (Doris), Kent Breen, Andrea Scott (Bill) and step-mother of Angela Rudy (Michael), Steven Millingen, Susan Millingen, Deborah Ryckman (Bill) and Donna Millingen (Julie). Dear grandmother of 11 and great grandmother of 4. Cherished sister of Lew Murphy and Bobby Murphy. She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Special Thank You to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held at THE NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division Street N. Bowmanville on Sunday March 13th, 2011 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday March 14th, 2011 at 11 am. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery.
