Obituary of Donald Alexander Keith

The family of Donald Alexander Keith regrets to inform you that he passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 25th, 2014 at the age of 68. For the past two years Don was very happy to call ‘Wilmot Creek’, Newcastle, Ontario, his home. Don spent most of his life in Nova Scotia; Brooklyn (Hants County), Halifax, Milford Station (Hants County), and Fall River. He died in Smithfield, North Carolina while vacationing with his wife. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Brenda (nee Goodfellow); daughters Karen (Gurdev) Parmar of White Rock, British Columbia, and Julia Keith (Jason Rokosh) of Toronto, Ontario; six grandchildren – Seth, Devan, Jesse, and Aarun Parmar from White Rock, and Sophie and Jonah Rokosh from Toronto; brother and nephew, David (Janice) Keith and Colin Keith of Brooklyn, Nova Scotia and Toronto, Ontario; aunts, Susan Murphy, Jeanette Hilchie and Trudy Pertus of Nova Scotia; brother-in-law Meryl (Janis) Goodfellow of Medicine Hat, Alberta, and beloved extended family members. Don was born in Halifax on November 20, 1945 and was the cherished son of Alexander Hugh Holmes Keith of Halifax and Loretta Matilda Pertus of D’Escousse, Nova Scotia. His early education was in Halifax and Brooklyn and he was a proud graduate of Acadia University (Bachelor of Commerce). Upon graduation he worked for Canadian General Electric in Toronto, then returned to Nova Scotia after marrying and undertook a 31 year career with Nova Scotia Power/Emera Inc. until his retirement from the Treasurer’s position in 2004. Generous and jovial, Don was an avid horseman, golfer, and bridge player. He was a family man; his greatest joys included golfing and playing bridge with his wife and participating in and supporting his family’s activities, either as a devoted father or playful ‘pappy’.
