Obituary of Joseph Guest

Joe passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Monday March 23 with his wife Elinore of 61 years and daughter (and caregiver) Patti at his side, after a 24 year battle with Leukemia at the age of 80. Beloved husband of Elinore. Loving father of Beverly (Tim) Jozkoski of Port Perry, Joe (Sue) Guest of Oshawa and Patricia (Russ) Gilbride of Hampton. Proud grandfather of Chad (Marianne) Jozkoski, Jenni Jozkoski (Jason), Kurtis (Danielle) and Colin Gilbride, Joshua & Matthew Guest. Great grandfather of Charlotte and Joseph Jozkoski and Bridgette Pannekook. Joe retired in 1980 after 30 years at GMC as an electrician at the age of 45. He raised, trained and raced standardbred horses for many years as he was an avid horseman, then retired to Sturgeon Lake to fish. Sunrise Nothing gives a man a feeling Of so much joy and pride As to be at the track at sunrise And have a colt to drive. I tell you there’s nothing like it, It cannot be explained When you go out early morning With your hands upon the reins. Some folks they ain’t so lucky, They commute to jobs they dread, If I had to do that, I’d just as soon be dead. Oh, I guess if I had to I’d do the same as them, But if I had my life to live over I’d do this all again. I suppose it ain’t all pleasure, Bad times there are of course, But they’re usually caused by people, Just leave me alone with my horse. Horses ain’t always perfect, But at least they don’t complain, So give me a colt at sunrise, With my hands upon reins.
