Our condolences to Hilda and the family. Jim was one of a kind, always smiling and friendly. A neighbor that would not let you go until you had that drink with him. You will be missed Jim by both Brian and myself.

From when I was a small child, I could feel Uncle Jim's energy precede him into a room - a mix of respect, integrity, humor or specifically...mischieveness.
At seven, I met Aunt Hilda and felt instantly the love between her and Unce Jim; to realize 60 years later their love was eternal and taught so many by example.
In 1965,Grandpa Cochrane chose a steer for me to buy and instructed Unce Jim to deliver it. Uncle Jim offered me $2 profit instead of unloading it. I knew instantly, I had a winner because even at 10 yrs old, I knew Uncle Jim was an astute businessman.
One Christmas (1967) Uncle Jim asked in a tone full of mischief, " who would like to come outside to sit on his ass" In an era where there was seldom curse words heard (especially in front of his Mother!), he had all his nieces in peels of laughter. Lo and behold, Uncle Jim actually had purchased a jackass and I did sit on it! Uncle Jim loved dogs, little children and Gloria.
On December 5th, 2022 there was such an aura of sadness in the world, with the loss of your husband, your Dad, and your Grandfather (and our Uncle). Sincere condolences to Murray, Carolyn,Ernie,Lori,Mitchell,Julia, John,Susanne,Alex,James and especially to Aunt Hilda. May the many memories shared bring a smile and some consolation as you grieve a wonderful man.

Tried this under “memories” but too much narrative…
So many memories of this great man, but to name a few:
-at quite a young age being a G&G Cochrane’s watching Jim get spiffed up to go on a date with Hilda. Donna polishing his shoes while he gets every hair in place with a little dab of brilcream .
-later jumping up into his stock truck with him to head for Stouffville livestock sales or perhaps Lindsay where I admire his purchasing skills as he and his buying buddies poke fun at one another. Head home with a load of cattle while Jim puffs on one of his “trump” cigars.
-Listening to him sing the one line of “Lord it’s hard to be humble” and then give his hearty and contagious laugh.
- hauling bales on hot summer days, breaking for lunch, but not before a cold Labbats 50 ale under the shade tree before going in.
-He and Hilda making the trek all the way out to Northern Manitoba for Lesley and my wedding.
-more recently just chatting with him on the phone talking about cattle prices, Ernie’s corn and various cattle feed sources that he was tapped into and of course the grand kids.
So many other memories to numerous to mention.
A man who will be missed by many. RIP Uncle Jim.
