Obituary of Luba Samochin

Luba Samochin passed away peacefully on Friday February 21, 2020 at the age of 70 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville. Luba survived by her brother John, was born in Manchester, England. Luba made her life in Bowmanville, Ontario. While employed at GM in Oshawa, Luba attended university and earned her teaching degree. She worked at Scarborough for many years and retired from the Toronto district school board. Luba had a deep love for her students and created many fond memories for staff, students and families. She taught art and science to special needs students in the Scarborough area. Luba was an artist and world traveler, fearlessly adventuring to exotic places like China and Mongolia. Luba enjoyed gardening, attending powwows, seeing movies, and sending joke emails to friends. She was an active member in the Oshawa Garden Club being the group’s financial auditor for many years. While hospitalized Luba was the catalyst in advocating art to be placed in the hospital’s dreary hallways. Before passing Luba forged a 70 year trail of compassion, wisdom, intelligence, and great friendship. Luba was a beautiful soul and will be greatly missed. She was the beloved friend to Marla Sands and Anthoney Peters, Sandy Rakestrow, Ross and Sharon Magee, and Audrey Camacho. I was given the gift of life and now I have to give it back. I decided to be accepting about having had a full life, living without regret, rather than sad about having to die. To my beloved friends – how precious you all have been to me. Metaphorically speaking, we will meet again, joyfully on the other side. Beautiful day, happy to have been here. Baamaapii miinwaa (until we meet again) There will be no funeral service and per Luba’s wishes cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oshawa Garden Club or the Bowmanville Garden Club.
