Obituary of Cynthia Blanche Prout

(nee Atkins) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cynthia Prout at the Bowmanville Hospital on Saturday July 19th, 2014 at the age of 77. Cynthia is survived by her beloved husband Luke, her children Martha Hendrikx (the late Mark), Adam Hickey (Victoria) and her step children Kim Prout (Laurie) and Donnie and Randy Prout. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Marissa, David (Kendra), Daniel, Rebecca and Vincent Hendrikx; Tyler and Oliver Hickey; Kym Prout and Hunter Sol Prout. Terribly missed by her 4 legged family of cats and dogs. Remembered fondly by the Hickey family, the Hannah family, Pierrette Godin, the Burnett family and her large A.A. family. Cynthia was born in Bangalore, India just before WWII, where her father was stationed with the British Army. She came to Canada when she was 11 years old, settling in Toronto, then marrying and having children in the Brampton area. When her children were little she moved up to the Yukon for a few years, before settling in Clarington, Ontario where she met the love of her life, Luke. Having worked her whole life she went back to night school to get her degree at McMaster in Addictions and Mental Health, then used that to help start and later become, the Director of Destiny Manor, a drug and alcohol rehab centre for women. Six years ago, Cynthia’s life was changed forever with a car accident when the other driver was on her cell phone, ran 2 red lights and smashed into Luke and Cynthia. Cynthia suffered brain damage and suffered slowly for 6 years, then very rapidly for the past few months. Despite this, Cynthia remained a loyal and loving friend and family member. She was to have celebrated her 37th A.A. anniversary this coming December, an accomplishment she was extremely proud of. Thanks to the amazing Dr. Albert, Dr. John Rundle and the nurses on the 2nd floor of Bowmanville Hospital. Cynthia was treated with nothing other than respect, dignity and love during her stay. We very much appreciate all they did for her and us, during these final 2 weeks.
