Obituary of Nel Van Abbema

Nel peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Lakeview Manor, Beaverton, ON, in her 84th year.

Beloved wife of the late Dirk Van Abbema. Loving mother of Sid (Karen), Sandra, Ken (Min Hui), and Diana. Cherished Grandma of Christopher (Lindsay), Breanna, Brittany, Jenna, Nasya, Elaina, and Odelia. Dear great-grandmother of Connor and Lochlan. Sister of John (Martha) Stammis, the late Kees (Evelyn) Stammis, the late Martin Stammis, the late Gerrie (Bill) Griffioen, and the late Jacob Stammis. Fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Throughout her life, Nel applied herself to being a selfless and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  Nel served God with zest, giving up much of her free time volunteering for many church activities and community programs inside and outside of the Bowmanville area.  

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all the staff of The Harbour-Lakeview Manor in Beaverton for their exemplary care throughout Nel's final years.

Visitation will be held at NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division Street, Bowmanville, on Tuesday, June 27th from 6-8 pm. A service to celebrate Nel's life will be held at REHOBOTH CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 130 Scugog St., Bowmanville, on Wednesday June 28th at 11 am. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Durham or the MS Society of Canada would be appreciated.
